Simplify where you can. Very fine lines, tiny text, or overly complex gradients can be difficult to reproduce accurately depending on the patch type — bold outlines and clear color separation generally hold up best, especially for embroidered styles. If your design includes text, slightly thicker fonts tend to stay legible at smaller patch sizes.
Think about color count too. Some patch styles handle unlimited colors well (like printed or sublimated), while others may have practical limits on thread colors.
